About this Event

Suzerain

Suzerain are a beautiful rock and roll chaos in a desert of sound, a 5 piece music machine re-inventing the genre and never afraid to push the boundaries or take it to the next level. Describe them? Well they are alternative electro rock and roll punks who fuse electronics with fuzzy guitars backed by a pulsating backbeat armed with a hand full of eyeliner will that do? From the blitzkrieg of ‘What’s Happened’ to the debut album ‘Midnight In The Drawn City’ through to torment and almost electro pop of 2012’s ‘Frenzy’ you can’t say that Suzerain skip round the music fire rather jump straight in and don’t give a f**k. With the man behind the desk and who pieces the chaos all together Mr Steve Lyon (Depeche Mode, The Cure, Siouxsie Sioux) he who adds the polish to the soundscapes that Suzerain weave this band deserve more but don’t all bands I hear you say?…Well some more than others and Suzerain are one of them. Never a dull moment with these gents just a full on rock n roll explosion in whirl of colours, burning a smouldering path of sound and vision they are here to entertain.

Fjokra

Fjokra is a multi-instrumentalist from Dublin. Drawing influences from an eclectic mix of genres, he has been creating and performing music for most of his life since first beginning to teach himself piano at the age of three.

Now based in London, Fjokra is live with his eponymous band and has gained a reputation for exhibiting a uniquely bizarre and electric live show. Collaborating as a performer, producer and instrumentalist with names such as The Clash, Tyondai Braxton (Battles), Reeps One, Lazy Habits and Hollie Cook, Fjokra is progressively building a name for himself as a unique and versatile artist.

Off stage and behind closed doors, Fjokra is constantly writing and recording new material with an EP release scheduled for 2014.

“Unique, insane and like nothing you’ll have ever seen before… we cannot recommend highly enough. This eponymous multi-instrumentalist from Dublin packs a punch in his music like no other. His songs sounds like they were all composed on a mad acid binge, whilst his attention to detail and multi-genre masterdom begs the question – why is this guy unsigned?” - Kat Jackman, Huffington Post

“Sex music for metallers” - Peanut Baines, Kaiser Chiefs

“The ever impossible to pigeon-hole Fjokra with the musical masterpiece that is Slyrex.” - Peter Donaldson, Absolute Radio

“Todd Rundgren in Genesis listening to Muse while hanging out with Queen, Sikth and Quincy Jones who are all shagging Prince in Rush’s private studio on LSD dressed up as The Beatles mixing Psycore jamming with The Manhattan Transfer in a lost Gershwin musical somewhere in Iceland”- Dave Wibberley

“Review of ‘The Old Time Nook’ – A psychophrenic trippy aural adventure with ‘jazz hands’! Intelligent. Creative. Blending musical styles in a unique way….the band are not just gifted they have mastered their craft. Intrigued to see a live performance!” - Vicki Blight, Absolute Radio

Osaka punch

If you're familiar with the live music scene in Brisbane, you probably fall into one of two categories: you're a fan of Osaka Punch (formerly The Kidney Thieves), or you've heard the name, and are yet to witness the spectacle of their live show firsthand.

The growing hype surrounding this act is based solely on a virtuosic high-energy live performance showcasing the group's ability to straddle any genre from authentic old-school funk to extreme modern metal. This flexibility has caused critics to draw comparisons to Frank Zappa and Mr Bungle, and has already earned them support slots with high-profile international acts and the creme-de-la-creme of the popular Australian scene.

"I love that heavy groove sh*t!" says Clint Boge of The Butterfly Effect, while Luke Gower of Cog described the group as "a breath of fresh air". Other artists of varied styles with whom Osaka Punch have graced the stage include Little Birdy, Mammal, Ed Keupper, True Live, LABJACD, Faker, The Matches (US), Endorphin, Wolf and Cub and many, many more. The group receive unsolicited airplay from national and local community radio stations of their unofficial recordings, have toured the east coast extensively, and have been billed at major festival events such as the Adelaide Fringe, Brisbane's Sounds of Spring '09 and The Gold coast Big Day Out 2011.

At the core of Osaka Punch’s current success is an approach to songwriting which fuses elements of several genres with accessible, dance-inducing grooves, all delivered by the group's infamous front man, Jack Muzak, with a tongue-in-cheek exuberance.

You can't call (Osaka Punch) a "warm-up" band... They're more of a "set fire to the stage & hope the next act can still use it" band. Their sound takes me back to a Faith No More era, where sounds and styles blended. (Osaka Punch) equals fun.

Jose Eduardo Cruz - Live Music Media

I am seriously addicted to this song… an awesome mix of weird, heavy and theatrical. If you haven’t seen (Osaka Punch) live then I suggest that you do… freaking AWESOME!

Sarah Howells – Triple J

In December '09, jazz-trained Dane Pulvurenti was awarded Best Drummer at both the state and national finals of Emergenza, the worlds largest and longest-running competition for independent acts, where Osaka Punch won second place overall from over 550 entries nationwide.

2014 proves to be an exciting year for the band. After recently relocating to Manchester, United Kingdom, Osaka Punch are currently preparing to enter the studio to follow up 2012's Voodoo Love Machine & the 2013 singles 'Served with Mustard' and 'Make the Call'.
