ABSENT KELLY INTRODUCING @ SURYA FRIDAY 11TH DECEMBER



Full Line Up: The Shakers, Dregas, Stretch Soul Gang, Issy Ferris, Chris Jones



For funky festivities this December, Surya is the place to be! We’ll be joined by some of the best Funky Indie Pop that’s on offer right now.



Topping the bill is The Shakers. These London lads dub themselves as “Slacker Rock”, blending together chilled out Indie, with a funky undertone to produce something super catchy and impossible not to dance to. This wonderful sound has already bagged the band spots on some of the underground scene’s most coveted stages, including the Half Moon in Putney, The Comedy Pub and Notting Hill Arts Club.



Joining us all the way from the USA is Dregas. A singer/songwriter with bucket loads of talent, Dregas will be joining us with her backing band to play her brand of funky Pop. She’s has already created a buzz for herself in London after shows at the Underbelly, Cargo and Spice of Life and is back for another rare chance to catch her in the Capital. Dregas has toured the US and Europe extensively with her solo work and with her other project ‘The Red Elvises’ and has her debut EP coming soon, so is definitely one to keep your eye on!



After impressing promoters Absent Kelly at a previous show, Stretch Soul Gang are back. This quintet from Suffolk combine Soul, Funk and Hip Hop to create something well worthy of your best dancing shoes. The band have recently released their debut EP, songs from which have enjoyed local radio airplay. It’s been one hell of a summer for this band so far having graced the stages of a number of festivals, including Alex Fest, Fling Festival and LeeStock, sharing the stage with Scouting for Girls.



Issy Ferris will be there too. London based Issy plays Folky Indie with a soulful edge to her voice, think Nora Jones or Katie Melua. Issy’s already got a fair few a under her belt, with Appearances at Barn On the Farm Festival, The Great Estate Festival as well as a handful of radio airplay to name just a few. We’re sure this is just the beginning of bigger things for her!



Opening the show is Chris Jones. Chris is a Scottish singer/songwriter, now based in St Albans and plays acoustic folk tinged indie. Having only relocated at the start of the year, Chris is fairly new to the scene in the South East, but has already bagged slots at some great venues in his local area, including well-renowned, the Horn, which has seen big names like Toploader, A and Dodgy grace its stage previously.
