About this Event

From an Aug 1976 Melody Maker advert, and the Oct London debut supporting Throbbing Gristle, CHELSEA are still one of the classic punk acts, and debut single Right To Work rightly regarded a classic – covered by Die Toten Hosen and went platinum. Gene’s comment? “I don’t give a damn”.

Touring the world with Black Flag, The Clash and The Police, Gene October found time to appear in two Derek Jarman films, Jubilee and Caravaggio as well as in The Omen, Minder and the scroll-reading monk in the vid for Sabbath’s ‘Headless Cross’. Gotta love that trivia (!)…

After line-up changes and reformations, third album ‘Evacuate’ was hailed by the press as the band’s finest hour and the band continued touring, releasing ‘The Alternative’ and ‘Traitor’s Gate’ both produced by Dave Goodman. the Phil Spector of Punk.

Fast forward to ’94 and Gene released his first solo album ‘Life And Struggle’ and the classic Chelsea line-up (Gene October, James Stevenson, Dave Martin, Geoff Myles and Chris Bashford) reformed for the Social Chaos tour across America in ’99. Further sporadic shows followed e.g. Holidays In The Sun, Punk Aid (The Garage) and The 100 Club.

2005 saw the release of a new Chelsea album – Faster, Cheaper And Better Looking’ also The Chelsea Anthology; ‘Urban Kids’ alongside bonus Gene October solo tracks including his never before released version of The Stooges ‘Raw Power’.

October 2011 saw the return of Mat Sargent & Nic Austin to the Chelsea fold after 18 years, joining Gene October & James Stevenson, Lee Morrell completing the line-up on drums. And this, the current line up, has mostly been playing festivals over the past few years and toured the UK.

The release of the 10th Chelsea studio album ‘Saturday Night Sunday Morning’ in April 2015 brings new interesting writing collaborations spanning musicians throughout Chelsea’s 40-year history. ‘The Singles Album’ has also been released on collectors white vinyl, and a brand new studio album set for release.
