About this Event

Come on down to the Moon Club in Stokes Croft on 28th April for a night of grooving to some uplifting Afro and world influenced beats.

Afrodisiac aims to bridge the gap between all things soulful, funky and electronic through hosting a dancefloor with Afro/world vibes blended with disco, house, soul and funk in an intimate and all incusive environment.

We have got a few tricks up our sleaves for this night... but firstly and importantly, have a lil read about the DJs joining us.

*** ESA ***

Esa William's recent arrival in London will be a loss to his adopted city of Glasgow, where, for the past 7 years he played a valuable role in the city's thriving music scene. He has had releases on the Highlife world series and he has been rocking any dancefloor worthwhile being on through playing a unique and contagious African influenced take on house music.

As an integral part of the Auntie Flo live set up, he has played at Europe's leading venues and festivals including Fabric, Razzmatazz, Sub Club, T in The Park, Corsica Studios and Plastic People - and he has been recently announced to play at Dekmantel this summer. It's no surprise that he's been championed by publications including XLR8R and Resident Advisor - bagging the coveted 'Mix of the Day' accolade with his Afro-Futurism mix for Fabric - a mix that spans through the realms of Afro infused house, jazz and acid.

*** AFRIQUOI (DJ) ***

Afriquoi are an underground sensation who bring an uplifting fusion of African music and live electronics.

They have had a great year playing at Dimensions Festival, WOMAD in the Canary Islands and they are on the bill for mainstage Boomtown this year. Afriquoi percussionist Dremiza brings a special set of African-influenced sounds including afro funk, house, and psychedelic sounds from across the African diaspora.

***KOICHI SAKA + NUBIYAN TWIST'S LIVE SAX***

Koichi is a Afrobeat DJ and producer who is a part of Afrobeat Vibration alongside Dele Sosimi. He plays, produces and remixes a electic mix of Afrobeat, world and generally happy, jazzy and funky vibes that will get the dancefloor warmed up. He will be joined by Nubiyan Twist's saxophonist: Denis Scully. Nubiyan Twist are a successful 12 piece Afro/Jazz collective who have shared the stage with the likes of De La Soul, Quantic, Hot 8 Brass Band and Robert Gasper to name a few - so we can be sure that this saxophone freestylin' addition is gonna be quite something!

He combines his broad collection of records, including Afrobeat, disco and jazzy house music to fill a dancefloor with happy grooves that will keep you on your toes until the end of the night.

----------------------------------

Profits raised for this night will help pay for a challenge we're doing in June for The Gurkha Welfare Trust Earthquake response fund. This challenge has been raising money for the people of Nepal who are still without proper homes, schools and food following the earthquakes in April last year.

So far we have raised £5000 for the fund itself, however, in order to pay for the training, safety boat and hire costs to do the trip, we must raise £1600 (so £800 each).
