Summer of 1967, 100,000 hippies came together in the Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood of San Francisco, and others gathered in major cities across the U.S., Canada and Europe. This cultural movement is fondly remembered as ‘The Summer of Love’. With this phenomenon acid-rock came to dominate the airwaves, accompanied by psychedelic drugs and bad hair styles. The irresistible rise of the hippies was taking place.

Fast forward 33 years, and the Summer of Love had a second coming, in an entirely different form. In 2000, Lonyo, a British producer, singer, and DJ, released his hit single ‘Summer of Love’, in the music style that was taking the British people by storm... UK Garage.

At the same time, UKG was moving out of the London club scene and had found its new spiritual home in Aiya Napa, Cyprus, creating a holiday destination that gave the British youth what they wanted. Then Radio One DJ Trevor Nelson told journalists "Ibiza is a no no. It's all just house music and it's too dependent on the drug culture... I've never really ventured to Europe for a holiday. But Ayia Napa is a London thing: garage is hot right now and this is THE destination."

SE10 want you to come and relive the summer of 2000 with us, by bringing the best in UK Garage to The Cellar Oxford, along with some serious Ayia Napa vibes. For those who have been to an SE10 event before, grime will get it's deserved airtime.

In the words of Lonyo:

“Move your body round me,

Get off and get undone,

It's the summer of love”
