Winchester Pub Theatre Presents...



A one off scratch performance of Luke Welch's debut play "Waiting for Robert" at the Winchester Pub theatre Bournemouth 30th of July.



Originally performed as part of a workshop at Solent University under the leadership of playwright Seamus Finnegan. "Waiting for Robert" has gone on to be shown as part of The Big Blake project's festival Golgonooza, and was also chosen by Blackwell's book shop Oxford to close the Inspired by Blake celebration. Having recently been a part of Blake the Outsider event in Worthing museum, the play was then taken to the Rosemary Branch Theater London.



The play centres itself around the struggles of a devoted wife, apprentice and soul mate Catherine Blake, and patron and friend John Hayley who is chasing the Blake’s for an unfinished commission. Meanwhile, William Blake, poet, and visionary is being haunted by the spectre from one of Blake’s most iconic paintings "The ghost of a flea" William believes that only the return of his dead brother Robert can banish the monstrous shadow that walks beside him.



Set against the backdrop of the industrial revolution, William Blake is witnessing his beloved Albion choke. The land that was once fit for the feet of kings is now condemned to dark dens and satanic mills. "It is England that is dying while I watch. Does that make me a tick too?" William asks.



"Waiting for Robert” is an exploration of the nature of genius, love and marriage, and the hazards of friendship.

Doors will open at 7 and begin with half an hour of Blake inspired poetry and pre drinks. The play will start at 7-30
