About this Event

Bristol SU is delighted to host Julia Holter on the penultimate date of her 2016 European tour, presenting her fourth and most intimate record to date, 'Have you in my Wilderness’.

An artist who recorded her first two albums in her bedroom, Holter’s latest work has received widespread acclaim from critics and has been described as “a genuinely exceptional and entrancing album” by the Guardian.

Recorded in her hometown over one year, and once again crafted with Grammy-winning producer and engineer Cole Greif-Neill, the album follows 2013's Loud City Song and two much-lauded previous titles: Ekstasis (2012) and Tragedy (2011). Have You in My Wilderness was written from the heart – warm, dark and raw – and explores love, trust, and power in human relationships.

Ranked as the best album of 2015 by Mojo magazine and coming in a close second in Q’s poll, Have You in My Wilderness is perhaps Holster’s greatest sonic achievement so far. Her vocals are front and centre in the mix, lifted out of the layers of smeared, hazy effects. The result is striking: clear and vivid, but disarmingly personal.
