Agnes Obel

About this Event

On the 26th November the atmosphere of the Anson Rooms will come alive with what one reviewer described as “Ethereal soundscapes that at times float near the classical realm.” A global artist with a rare ability to connect with a broad audience, many of Agnes Obel’s 2016 tour dates have already sold out. The Danish singer-songwriter’s most recent album, Aventine, has been certified Gold across Europe and won her international praise.

Discovered on MySpace, Agnes Obel is one pioneer of a generation of unique Artists plucked from obscurity by the power of the Internet. Obel started playing piano when she was around six years old, and grew up in an unconventional home containing a collection of exotic musical instrument. Obel’s musical influences are varied - Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson, PJ Harvey, Claude Debussy, Joni Mitchell and Roy Orbison. This eclecticism is projected upon her folk/classical style.

Aventine, her sophomore record that was released in late 2013, has won her critical praise throughout Europe, the UK, Canada and now the United States. A truly global artist, Obel demonstrates a rare ability to connect with a broad audience across many boundaries.

Quoted as saying “I don’t want to impose my subjectivity to the listener", Obel aims “to create images with words” so come with an open musical mind to this much anticipated date.
