'Candide, ou l'Optimisme' was originally a novel by Voltaire. It opened on Broadway in 1956, with music by Bernstein and lyrics by Wheeler and Sondheim amongst others. Now it's coming to Bristol's Winston Theatre. Energetic, colourful, and highly philosophical, the operetta sees the optimistic Candide run into all sorts of misfortune as he treks across half of Europe and South America in order to reunite with his true love, Cunegonde. He encounters various characters along the way, each contributing to the hilarity and outrageousness of the whole fiasco. A production not to be missed, Bristol's Operatic Society welcomes you to experience the journey of a lifetime in the search for a universal good.
