If you don’t know of Damon C Scott yet, you will do very soon. He shot to internet prominence in 2012 when someone captured him singing Adele’s hit pop song “Someone Like You” during one of his regular busking sessions at New York’s 86th Street Station. The clip, which also saw Scott playing a djembe alongside his plaintive vocals, went viral on YouTube and made a sensation of the singer.



At first, people wrongly assumed Scott to be an amateur with no musical background. But he wasn’t, and in fact had previously provided vocals to one of house music’s most enduring anthems – Storm Queen’s ‘It Goes On’ from 2011 produced by Metro Area member Morgan Geist. Other credits include vocals on ‘Look Right Through’, again with Geist, and Chris Malinchak’s ‘No Secrets’. Scott’s mother had in fact been in Earth, Wind and Fire, and Morgan Geist recognises Scott as “a tal­ented impro­viser” so it’s no surprise the pair have continued to work together, whilst Damon himself has continued to sing in the Subway.
