UkeJam

https://www.facebook.com/ukejam

UkeJam began in January 2011 as the brainchild of Adam Wolters and Penny Fazackerley. Starting off as a small group of musicians who all owned ukuleles and fancied having a jam in a pub, UkeJam has grown in numbers, seeing up to 35 members turn up every two weeks at The Royal Oak in Guildford.

Since January, UkeJam have risen to local fame, with the help of their first gig alongside the incredibly talented Charley Farley Sunday Four at the Woking Canal festival, where they acted as the band's ukulele orchestra. Since then, they have gradually climbed the musical ranks, playing Guilfest's acoustic stage and vintage stage in July 2011, and most recently have supported the incredible bluegrass band Hayseed Dixie at The Boileroom's 5th birthday celebrations. They are a group not to be missed, and if you fancy getting involved yourself, head down to The Royal Oak in Guildford, bring your uke, and soak up the atmosphere of musical goodness.

The New Hawleans Jug Band

https://www.facebook.com/newjugband

A rollicking collection of meandering musicians led by the irrepressible and irresponsible “Al the Hat”; The New Hawleans Jug band have dominated the underground Jugband blues culture in NewHaw, Surrey, for over 10 years. With their rocked-up, Jazzed-up and messed-up versions of blues, folk and country standards, no one genre could accommodate them, so they had to create their own: they are perhaps, the finest “Jugabilly” band you’re ever likely to hear. Some of NewHaw’s most creative drinkers have shuffled in and out of Al’s group; with the present line-up consisting of: Al the Hat on Blues Harp and vocals, Ewan (the newan) on doghouse bass, Precious Pierre on Mandolin, guitar and vocals, Jim-boy on lead guitar and vocals, Cool-Hand Luke on guitar and vocals, and Washboard-Steve, on Steve’s mum’s Washboard. Listen out for their rabble rousing rendition of “Plastic Jesus”, and the delightful timbre and subtle, but complex tonality from the solo trumpet-Kazoo. You’ll want more!!
