ELLIS HALES - "Richard hales my dad is a hairdresser and is 49 years old with 3 children me Ellis 24 Tom 29 and Farley 19.My dad was diagnosed with AML Acute Myeloid leukemia 8 weeks ago, stage 7 . He had been feeling ill since November last year as the leukemia had been missed by numerous doctors in the end we went private and he was diagnosed privately from a bone marrow sample he then went down hill quite quickly and was rushed into hospital the next day. The cancer is in his blood and bones but had only been detected through a bone marrow test. Dad had battled to go to work for months in agony even the week of diagnoses my dad refused not to go to work due to financial worries as he is self employed. This is when me and my brothers decided to take control and set up a go fund me page called Disco Dads Road to Recovery to relief my dads financial worries during this long road to recovery. He was inundated with support from family and friends near and far even in Australia, dad is a larger than life soul and has touched so many peoples life's.
My dad has actually had AML for a long time before it was detected through further results it is thought that he had it for up to 2 years! Which now meant it was a stage 7 cancer and he would have to undergo intense chemotherapy course for up to 8 months and then will have to go to Kings Hopsital for a bone marrow transplant. We was overwhelmed when results found his non identical twin brother Gary is a 100% doner which is rare and amazing!! His recovery is going to take at least a year and he will be mainly hospitalised due to the intense treatment. So this is why the least we could do was to fund raise for him so he had no worries during this tough time. At first dad was embarrassed by the thought of fund raising to support him but then he was overwhelmed and touched by all the love and support.
Retox approached me as they know my dad very well, as dad has always been a man into his house music, retox wanted to throw a special charity event the way my dad would love and that is to dance! This is the least my family and dads friends could do we feel helpless and this gives my dad a lift throughout his time in hospital".
