Paper Circus



Paper Circus are an alternative indie band from East London. Alan Schaller and Kevin Curran started the band after an introduction from a mutual friend. One was cutting his teeth as a producer and working musician while the other had come to London to pursue writing after years of attempts to make it with bands in Ireland. Once they became friends and struck up a musical chemistry, they retreated to a practice room under a railway bridge in Bow. Over six months they talked about confusions regarding life and love, and wrote an album worth of songs with these themes in mind. The music is brooding and upbeat at the same time, reflecting the band’s influences from 1980s new wave to 00s indie. Tales of misunderstanding, rejection and acceptance are sandwiched between sharp riffs and anthemic choruses. With the addition of bass player Mickael Blanchet, and Sara Shevlin on rhythm guitar they are now embarking on a journey, sharing these songs live.

Those Handsome Animals



Formed in late 2014, Those Handsome Animals were born out of a frustration of modern music. Tired of hearing the same music over and over again, the group cobbled together a set of influences long forgotten and set about creating something new.

The two guitarists (Thomas D. Millett & Gavin Hankins), share lead duties, with both working together to create a sounds in debt to the 70’s bands such as Status Quo, utilising harmonised guitars and rhythm patterns not heard in a long time.

The music is the backdrop for Thomas D. Millett’s unique lyrics. Often tongue twisting, he’s lyrics deal with the need to escape (Away Again), the claustrophobia of city life (Right Fit For the City) and what HAS TO BE the first song written about London’s current housing crisis (Home pt.1).
