ABSENT KELLY INTRODUCING @ SURYA FRIDAY 8TH JANUARY



Full Line Up: The Otherside, The Contenders, Kat Reyes, Hugh Macdonald



For their first show of the year, promoters Absent Kelly want to start things in style, with a night of fantastic Alt/Indie at Kings Cross’s Surya.



Topping the bill is The Otherside. London lads, this quintet play guitar driven Indie Rock ‘N’ Roll, laiden with heavy, grungey guitar lines and vocals that are dark and brooding in places and Mark Bolan-esque in others. The band released their latest EP, “Seduction! Revolution!

Murder!” earlier this year and it’s been well received, gaining them slots at some of the Capital’s most well renowned grass roots venues, including the Birds Nest and the New Cross Inn.



The Contenders will be joining them to provide some support. Formed in Bristol last year, where they have already played legendary venues including The Fleece, this quartet are now based in London. Since this move, the band have played plenty of stalwart venues on the scene, including the Seabright Arms and the O2 Academy Islington and are keen to carry on impressing around the Capital.



London songstress Kat Reyes will be there too. Kat Reyes. London based Kat plays country tinged Indie Pop and her gorgeous, delicate voice has seen her bag slots on the stages of some of the Capital’s most well renowned underground venues so far, including Proud Camden, the Seabright Arms and the Barfly and has even bagged her some airplay on Nambucca Radio for her latest single, ‘Unkind’.



Hugh Macdonald will be opening the show. Hugh is a singer/songwriter who plays dark acoustic Indie with a sprinkling of folk and a voice reminiscent of Ben Howard. This winning mixture has seen Hugh make an impression on the London scene, playing at venues like the Dublin Castle and the Garage. This show will be a home coming of sorts for Hugh, who is returning to London for the festive season before returning to his studies in the States, so this will be a rare chance to catch him this side of the pond!
