The Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers LAST EVER GIG! Skylarkin' Good Friday Special
About this Event
LAST EVER GIG!
The Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers were born after one too many Belgian Ales in an Oxford basement in 2004 and went on to become one of the finest purveyors of authentic live ska, rhythm & blues and caribbean boogaloo in the UK - sharing stages with Toots & The Maytals, Ska Cubano and The Skatalites alongside numerous festival appearances at home and abroad. In 2012 they released their one and only LP 'Drop Some Leg' to considerable critical acclaim.
"The best, most authentic ska ever played by white men"
"Oxford's Skatalites!"
Twelve years on and with a raft of other projects in the pipeline, the band are finally hanging up their roasted snacks for the last time. But not before a suitably HEAVY send-off in their hometown! Featuring, for the first time ever, a specially expanded line-up, making The Nine Tons a 9-piece brassbound behemoth!
Starring:
UK R&B legend Sir Bald Diddley on vocals and guitar
The unmistakable drumming of Holly Golightly sticksman Bruce 'Bash' Brand
The Late Ron McRobbie on bass
The tonking piano of Kid Wig
The FIVE honking horns of Johnny Loafer, Spadge McRae, Napoleon Trombonaparte, Tommy Temptation and Pama International's Simon Wilcox
For the final time - pure, authentic island ska and Jamaican boogie as it was originally intended. Come Drop Some Leg.
Count Skylarkin (Trojan Records) takes to the decks before and afterwards, keeping you rocking from the top till the very last drop.
