About this Event

The Blockheads return to The Fleece by popular demand, following two sell out shows here in 2015.
The Blockheads formed in 1977 to promote Ian Durys’ album ‘New Boots and Panties’ on the first Stiff Records tour of the U.K. Together they released ‘What a Waste’ reaching #5 in the U.K. charts, ‘Hit me with your Rhythm Stick’ reaching #1, and ‘Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3′ reaching #3.
Ian Dury & The Blockheads disbanded in 1982, only regrouping for select shows in ’87, ’90, ’91, ’94 & ’95.
In March 1996 Ian was diagnosed with cancer and, after recovering from an operation, was determined to write another album. To this end The Blockheads went into rehearsal and released the album ‘Mr. Lovepants’ in 1998 before hitting the road as Ian & The Blockheads once more. The last performance by Ian Dury & The Blockheads was February 6th 2000 at The London Palladium. Ian died at 9am on 27th March 2000.
In 2016, The Blockheads features Gilad Atzmon (Sax), Mick Gallagher (Keyboards), Derek Hussey (Vocals), Chaz Jankel (Guitar and Keyboards), Davey Payne (Sax – when in the West Country), John Roberts (Drums), John Turnbull (Guitar) and Norman Watt-Roy (Bass) with occasional special guest Phill Jupitus (Vocals). These legendary Brit-Funkers will be playing all the old favourites and new material.
