Parallel Dimensions w/ Altern-8, Grooverider & Evil Eddie
About this Event
18.06 Parallel Dimensions 2nd Birthday
We are throwing a birthday party to celebrate two years of memorable parties. And what a two years it has been! In that time our celebrated house night has brought an impressive array of legendary DJs to Bristol, including 808 State, Graeme Park, A Guy Called Gerald, Victor Simonelli, and Fabio plus many more
In line with our love for the free-and-easy ethos that marked out Britain’s rave revolution, it’s entirely fitting that the second birthday bash will take place in The Moon Club, a space inside the legendary Lakota nightclub that was once host to groundbreaking club nights during the ‘80s and early ‘90s. In our typical fashion, the space will be fully decorated, while circus performers will add colour and vibrancy to proceedings.
Such an occasion demands a legendary line-up
Altern 8, whose mask-wearing antics, fondness for publicity stunts and hard-hitting hardcore classics made them one of the most successful dance acts of the early ‘90s. Original formed as Detroit-influenced techno act Nexus 8 in Stafford by mates Mark Archer and Chris Peat, the duo rose to prominence under the Altern 8 moniker on the back of a string of crossover hits, including “Infiltrate 202”, “Activ-8”, “E-Vapor 8”, “Hypnotic St-8” and “Frequency”. Two decades on, Altern 8 is still performing to adoring crowds and founder member Mark Archer is coming to celebrate with us.
DJ GROOVERIDER, another legend of British dance music who will be performing a rare house set. While now best known for his part in the evolution of rave, hardcore and jungle during the rave era – and subsequently becoming one of the leading lights of the drum & bass scene – Grooverider began his career spinning house records in his native London. During the pre-rave days, he showcased the best in acid house on a Sunday morning show on pirate station Phase 1. In Grooverider’s own words: “Now its drum n bass, but house is what I know inside out. It’s what I grew up with, my first love. I know everything about it. Drum n bass is something we formulated out of house”.
Evil Eddie Richards Fabric regular and London tecnno pioneer ‘EVIL’ EDDIE RICHARDS. Nearly 30 years after he first took to the decks, Richards remains a committed champion of new underground house and techno. During that three-decade journey, Richards has also produced a number of groundbreaking records, from his fusions of Detroit techno and dub basslines as Jolly Roger, to a slew of influential tech-house records.
As always the party also features a wealth of local ‘old skool’ talent in support,
DELI G, Veteran house and garage DJ who continues to introduce a new generation of West Country clubbers to the best American house music, well over 30 years since his began. A very much loved and close friend of Parallel Dimensions - its not the party without him.
Also rolling back the years will be local rave and jungle originator CRIDGE, whose name will evoke fond memories for anyone who partied in Bristol during the ‘90s and early 2000s, Warehouse Wax records owner VINYL JUNKIE, and Ghetto Dub co-owner RACHAEL E.C.
Completing a bulging line-up are fast rising Parallel Dimensions residents and associates TOMMY MACK, SCOTT-E, and TED + NIKEE.
