Explore over 15 independent music venues, staging home-grown talent from rock to reggae, from hip hop to house, as Brisfest returns to the beating heart of the city. Brisfest :soundscape will focus purely on the best local acts to truly celebrate South West rising artists and represent the city’s current musical landscape, and current Bristol Sound.
There will be a daytime hub of activity around the Station and Island with outdoor stages, walkabouts and market stalls to bring that festival feeling for all ages, followed by a one-wristband entry to a compilation of Bristol’s top party spots to dance and enjoy into the small hours.
This event launches our eagerly anticipated new ticketing system, dubbed AAA ticketing, as part of our mission to support local artists and remain as inclusive as possible. The first of its kind, tickets will be sold on a Pay What You Decide basis, and profits shared among all performing artists.
Venues. The Station and Courtyard, The Island and Prison Cells, The Old Courts. The Mother’s Ruin,
The Fleece, Stag & Hounds, The Exchange, Small Horse Bar, The Louisiana, Crofter’s Rights, No.51,
Start the Bus, Mr Wolf’s, and the Doghouse.
Including genres: Punk, folk, rock’n’roll, indie, ska, swing, jazz, latin, hip hop, electro swing, soul, metal, hardcore
disco, house, roots, reggae, dub,funk, old skool, RnB, garage, bassline, drum’n’bass, jungle, techno,
electro, EBM, dub.
AAA ticketing is fairer;
for Audiences – a new Pay What You Decide Model allows you to choose the price of your ticket, either opting for an affordable minimum ticket price from just £10, or donate more for extra rewards, knowing it goes to performing artists and charity.
for Artists – acts are paid fair fees for performing PLUS 50% of all profits from the event on top.
for Apprentices – The remaining proceeds go back into the charity and work with volunteers, helping to upskill and train our local community and provide routes into employment year round.
This has come following two years of planning and consultations with local musicians, who say that as the record industry has changed, artists now rely on paid gigs more than ever, as record sales generated by exposure don’t really exist any more at this level.
“We have a strong community here in Bristol, and giving people the chance to directly support our local music industry, whilst having a good time is what we’re all about. We are a charity set up to support and promote local music, art and culture so using Brisfest :soundscape to directly support local artists and venues is vital to us, as well as giving back through training and volunteering.”
Further details, including the line-up and venues, will be released over the coming months.
