HEADLINE
NICK FIELD
Nick makes contemporary performance that is playfully shaped, sharply observed and meticulously crafted. Informed by his background in theatre, his writing and performance is characterised by a searing honesty, a drive to explore and question, and delight in the possibilities of creating. His work is shot through with lyrical realism, a comedic eye for the absurd and an irrepressibly satiric ear, and it has played both with the epic in the everyday and the personal relevance in the extraordinary. His performances are beguiling, warm, funny and searching, and will often involve music and movement scores, and usually involve stories, but definitely involve words; devastatingly gorgeous ones at that.
Nick has had plays commissioned and produced by leading theatre companies including The Royal Court, Paines Plough and Theatre Royal, Plymouth. He is also a short film maker, his first film Treehouse has toured with the BBC Big Screen and been screened and exhibited by the Propeller Film channel. He has taken his work to major events, venues and festivals internationally including Soho Theatre, The Royal Festival Hall, Latitude Festival and Kulturhussett, Stockholm.
In May 2011 Nick premiered his first full length show The Cosmos, The Cosmetics at Brighton Fringe Festival, and took it to Stockholm Fringe Festival in August 2011. It then went on a national tour to venues including The Albany, Ovalhouse and Oxford Playhouse. In 2012 he was commissioned to make a work-in-progress solo piece by The Nightingale Theatre, Brighton and Ovalhouse for the Pinkfringe project Mauve New World. In 2013 his second full solo production Adventure/Misadventure played for 3 weeks at Ovalhouse, where he was also Artistic Associate. The show has since toured to Latitude Festival and was selected for Stockholm Fringe Festival. In 2015 he toured a one to one piece, Be My Friend, with Forest Fringe to Latitude Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He also presented a new work in progress piece I Show You a Mirror as part of the Forest Fringe 2015 Edinburgh programme.
