About this Event

Belter:

"I like cake. Not the band - although I do - but chocolate cake is my fave. The point is, it’s fun to act like a child, but I hate to be treated like one. Who doesn’t? There’s a scary mindset out there, where we don’t trust anyone (not even ourselves) to make grown-up decisions. We seem to want someone else to step in and take control. I could throw a tantrum about it all. But who'd care? So I write songs." Angelo K., Belter

And what songs. With lyrics sharper than razor-wire and tunes that stick the boot in, Belter is punk for grown-ups who like a dance.

They’ve nicked the buzzsaw drive of The Buzzcocks, The Clash’s spunk, The Stranglers’ riffs and some of the best tunes Blondie never wrote. And their singer sounds like Jello Biafra pogoing on a Roxy Music-era Brian Ferry. Since they formed in 2007, Belter have taken their tight, energetic set to some of the world's most iconic venues: London’s 100 Club, the Paradiso in Amsterdam and the Trash Bar in Brooklyn.

2012 was a great year for the band. They headlined the opening night of the Cambridge Buzz festival, and later that summer were main support to Friday's headliner Katrina (of Katrina and the Waves) at Halesworth's Gig In The Park festival. Last year also saw the band record their first single, TV Junkie, with producer Marc Waterman (Elastica, Ride, Ash).

2013 looks to be even better: in January they followed their single with the release of a three-track EP, ‘Invisible Cat’ which sees the band’s trademark sound expanded with a little help from their friends on strings, brass and slide guitar. Tracks were engineered and co-produced by Stephen Stewart, whose production credits include Kim Wilde's seminal track, ‘Kids In America’.

Belter have played live on FM radio, and have been played on internet and FM radio stations all over the world, including BBC 6 Music (‘BBC Introducing.. with Tom Robinson’).

Slowgun:

SLOWGUN formed in 2005 and have been playing their catchy indie-rock-pop tunes on and off ever since. Toni sings and plays guitar, Piers plays another guitar and occasionally attempts to sing, Stef plays bass and Matt hits the drums with drumsticks. Slowgun have played gigs with Shonen Knife, Yuck, Bellini, The Primitives, Pete and the Pirates, Versus, Wussy and many more. Their self released green 7” single “Stephen” has been played on 6music and an earlier demo of “SIdekick Me” was played on Huw Stevens’ show on Radio 1.

Ensor:

"Music you'd expect to hear in a commercial for a product you really don't want to buy"

Ensor, named after Belgian artist James Ensor, is not too arty-farty to make catchy rock songs, that refer a lot too the great era of Indie Rock: late eighties, early nineties, hard, soft. Why? Because then it was still a lot more about the music. The band will be putting out a series of videos from October 2013 and for the rest it's get you arse of the couch and go to the venue, get your ears fucked and enjoy a couple of drinks!
