Beginning life as an underground battle rapper and stalwart of the London Hip Hop scene from 2000 until 2007, Doc Brown has diversified profoundly, moving into mainstream TV and Film acting, stand up, screen writing and children’s books. Under his fledgling production company Bust-A-Gut Ltd, he has begun developing scripts alongside long time collaborator Lajaune Lincoln.
As a stand up he has performed all over the UK circuit as well as crafting sold out solo shows for the Pleasance One at the Edinburgh Festival, the Montreal Comedy Festival and the Town Hall and Victoria Hotel for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He appeared art Wembley in 2013 for Comic Relief’s Give It Up show and returned for the charity in 2015 at the London Palladium. He has also toured extensively as the support act for Ricky Gervais, taking in the 12,000 seater Ericsson Globe in Stockholm and the 8,500 seater Spektrum in Oslo.
He has a host of notable television performances under his belt including a starring role in ITV’s hit drama Law & Order, C4’s The Inbetweeners and Derek, BBC’s Hunted, Rev, Miranda, Russell Howard’s Good News, Live at the Apollo and ITV’s Midsomer Murders, most recently landing a starring role on the forthcoming ITV drama Midwinter of the Spirit.
Doc landed his first movie role in the forthcoming thriller Level Up and is highly regarded for his ongoing work with Ricky Gervais, with whom he is shooting a feature film, Life On The Road in November 2015. Smith boasts a wide following amongst children and young people, starring in and writing for the cult CBBC animation Strange Hill High and creating and co-writing the BAFTA winning Four O’Clock Club on CBBC, now into its fifth series. His first children’s book will be published by Walker in March 2016.
Doc has recently returned to music, releasing the comedy rap album Empty Threats in August 2015 and is currently working on some “serious” music for the first time in eight years.
