CAS Cambridge presents D’Angelo ‘Voodoo’
About this Event
We’re finishing the year with some serious soul as we feature one of our most requested albums ever D’Angelo, Voodoo.
Recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City the album featured a loose groove base style which was a departure from D’Angelo’s first album Brown Sugar. Blues, gospel, funk, R&B, soul, hip-hop, classic rock and jazz are all drawn on to make an album which stands out as one of the finest albums of the noughties.
There’s a feeling of having traveled when you get to the end of Voodoo and it’s a journey we are looking forward to taking again, join us at our intimate listening session to experience D’Angelo as never before.
The host for this event is Mr. Asabere from #MusicSuitePresents - Mr Asabere simply loves music. He obtained his love of music from his father who was a musical force in the Asabere household. Artists such Aretha Franklin, Parliament, Marvin Gaye & Otis Reading, The Bee Gees and Sly and the Family Stone were amongst the records religiously played on Sundays. Mr Asabere Snr's 45's were one of his most prized possessions and were his first borns introduction to music. The album credits were where he learnt of the musicians, engineers and songwriters who featured on landmark albums and introduced him to more inspirations and classics.
Listening and collecting music is a daily ritual for Mr Asabere. He appreciates life and the talents that the world has bestowed upon us with the amazing artists, songs and albums. So much so, that Mr Asabere is the founder of The Music Suite, a musical community that has over 500 members, whose aim is to foster and nurture a musical community, where music, culture and lifestyle come together through a dynamic and engaging medium, by sharing and educating music of old and new and supporting musicality to its fullest.
The Music Suite is supported through the bi-weekly radio show #MusicSuitePresents, co-hosted by Mr Asabere and his collaborator Mr Gizmo, playing across genres and offering commentary and often deep insight into the music they play.
Mr Asabere says “I am honoured to be hosting the Classic Album Sundays presentation of Voodoo by D'Angelo, it’s a landmark album for me and contemporary soul music fans and deserves a fitting tribute that the CAS format delivers.
Voodoo is a double album so at the Cambridge event we will be starting the presentation at 16:00, warm up from 15:00 please arrive early to avoid disappointment!
