About this Event

So here we are again, fresher's week. Everybody's - especially average promoters' - favourite time of year.



As it's all taketaketake with club nights in freshers week, I've decided to give something back to the new student community.



There is a lot of new language when you come to University and start talking about going out; some of which you might not be familiar with. So I've compiled a small list of some of the most used phrases and words, and their meanings, into a handy Gold Teeth dictionary. Please study, there will be a small test at the end.

Rave - A word bandied around by promoters to insinuate that their event is akin to the legendary illegal raves of the 90s. Trust me, there is nothing illegal or legendary about these middle class money spinners.



Hype - Popularised by Grime in the 2000s to mean good or exciting. Posh white boys in hats have claimed it to mean that their deep house night will have 50 attendees.



Peak - I don't know what the fuck this means, is it to do with a mountain? More expensive train fares before 9.30? Please get in touch.



Ting - It's when you want to say 'thing' but your black Caribbean roots and accent dictate that you drop the h. Honestly.



"killing it" - Confusingly, this does not mean murdering something, it means someone was doing something very well. To change the connotation of the phrase, from negative to positive, was a hard fought campaign in the mean corridors of west London private schools.
