THUNDERCAT (Brainfeeder)

Liverpool debut LIVE at the Invisible Wind Factory

We finally landed him! One of the finest and most in demand musicians of this generation will finally be gracing Liverpool within the incredible surroundings of the Invisible Wind Factory this spring.

Grammy-winning bassist/songwriter/vocalist Stephen Bruner, aka Thundercat, has music deeply rooted within. His father, Ronald Bruner, Sr., is an internationally renowned jazz drummer who played with the Temptations, Diana Ross, Gary Bartz and Gladys Knight. His brother Ronald Bruner, Jr., a Grammy-winning drummer, has played with the likes of Roy Hargrove, Stanley Clarke, and Wayne Shorter. Stephen joined his brother as a member of West Coast punk vets Suicidal Tendencies, playing bass on their worldwide tours while still in high school. He also toured through Japan with Stanley Clarke at the age of 16.

As Thundercat, Bruner takes his jazz roots and works with a mix of artists that suit his wildly experimental sensibilities - ranging from Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu, Kendrick Lamar, and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, to name but a few.

After meeting and touring with Flying Lotus, the two artists collaborated on Lotus’ 2010 LP Cosmogramma on the track "MmmHmm." Their kindred sense of musicality led to Thundercat’s 2011 solo debut The Golden Age of Apocalypse, co-produced by Flying Lotus, which opened Bruner up to a new stratosphere of songwriting and artistic exploration. In 2013, Thundercat teamed up with executive producer Flying Lotus once again, to form a profound body of work for his second album, Apocalypse.’

Most recently, Thundercat has made outstanding contributions to not one, but two, of the greatest albums of modern times - 'To Pimp A Butterfly' and the 'Epic' - by fellow Los Angelians, Kendrick Lamar and Kamasi Washington. His appearance on Kendrick Lamar's 'These Walls' from 'To Pimp A Butterfly' earned Thundercat a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. His most recent body of work 'The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam' picks up where 2013's Apocalypse left off, with Thundercat joined on production duties by longtime sparring partner Flying Lotus for six spiraling excursions to the outer limits of jazz-funk. The legendary Herbie Hancock pops up on keyboards on"Lone Wolf & Cub" and there are contributions from fellow Brainfeeder family members Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Mono/Poly on sax, strings and production respectively.

Thundercat will release his third full-length studio album Drunk on 24th February via Brainfeeder.

The album is a 23-track epic journey into the often hilarious, sometimes dark mind of the Grammy-winning singer/bassist and finds a few of his friends joining him along the way including: Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Wiz Khalifa, Kamasi Washington and Brainfeeder mastermind Flying Lotus.

An internationally respected musician at the heart of so many of the sounds that we love, it's an honour to bring Thundercat to the city at a time when musicianship and artistic craft is needed more than ever. We hope you can join us for what is set to be a beautiful night of music in the mesmerising surrounds of the Invisible Wind Factory.
