About this Event

We are hugely excited to be doing our first gig in Oxford, with a fantastic line up for your delectation!

The Black Delta Movement

soundcloud.com/bdmofficial

Hull based, with a psychedelic garage sound and many different influences ranging from the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Paul Weller, The Small Faces and The Black Keys amongst others.

Psyence

soundcloud.com/psyenceuk

Combining the kind of ear-mangling riffs of Tame Impala and The Black Angels with effects-heavy swirling backing and mesmerising vocals, Psyence effortlessly hark back to the 60s psychedelic rock wellspring and to an entirely original adolescent search for something beyond the tame sponsored-alternative current music scene. And the live arena is where they are at their very best!

THe Neon Violets

The Neon Violets produce heavy psych rock, throbbing hypnotic grooves and swirling drones with a dark and brooding edge. The three piece, from Oxford and London, was put together by bass player Joe Chapman, and features Rob McNeil on Guitar and Mario Cano Trillo on drums.

Joe was raised in a prison, sleeps in a Mongolian yurt and spent a substantial period in his early 20s eating road-kill. Rob has been chased by mountain gorillas, stroked a wild tiger and briefly masqueraded as the president of Botswana. Mario is from Cordoba. He makes films and has a moustache that is likely to have led to MI5 opening a file on him.

While various incarnations of the band have been playing since 2010, the current line-up has been in place since the summer of 2014. In this short time they have put together a set of intense, hooky, and heavy psych tracks that will shortly be recorded as a vinyl album.

"Oxford's answer to Spacemen 3 via early Black Sabbath, The Neon Violets are a completely immersive experience live, drenching everything in their path with sheets of reverb and undulating riffs that make us think of prime Wooden Shjips." Q Magazine, October 2014

"Subterranean hypno-psych" with "Riffs as big as the sun" Nightshift, May 2014

"slow, deliberate, droning riffs, reminiscent of Wooden Shjips, grip your brain ever tighter like a boa constrictor until your mind goes blank and you're seeing stars. It's a lovely way to go" Nightshift June 2014

"The Neon Violets set about returning the venue to a time when immersive acid-fried rock ruled the land with a velvet glove and matching pantaloons. Committing themselves entirely to the sound is where The Neon Violets succeed; this is no homage or pastiche, it is purely about revelling in the ability of drone and walls of sound to create changes in the mind. Get swept away in the tide of reverb, delay and desert-baked guitars and it's just possible that by the end of the set, a moment of clarity will be achieved." Nightshift April 2014
