Artemis
About this Event
Artemis ‘Myths can’t be translated as they did in their ancient soil. We can only find our own meaning in our time' - Margaret Atwood
This May 3rd 4th and 5th, Motion will be hosting a unique performance in their third warehouse space as Alana Bloom debut's her solo work 'Artemis' after two years of development and research.
This abstract performance weaves together a story of our past, makes it relevant to our present and applies it to our future, fusing aerial circus, physical theatre and movement set against an industrial background whilst keeping the wilderness ever present within her work, Alana dares to ask the questions we have been avoiding.
'Artemis awakes as if from a thousand year slumber. She had been forgotten. Her temples disintegrated, the literature written about her burnt, the statues fallen as humanity tumbled into darkness. But something stirs the final breath in her. Her limbs, fingers and toes crack, her hair thick with stone begins to move whilst dust dances with her and she pulls what’s left of herself back into the realms of the living.'
What if the mythological gods who were said to have protected the world were to awake amongst us today, what would they see? Would they see humanity exhausting the environment of our planet for its resources, at the expense of the air we breath? This performance brings new meaning to these myths and tales, awakening the presence of these old gods within a performative ritual to ask them.
Tickets will be on sale through motion's website shortly as well as information on how you can support the project as Alana releases her crowdfunding campaign.
