In October 2004 The Dualers launched themselves, unannounced, into the UK Singles Chart, landing at an impressive number 21 with self-penned song, Kiss on the Lips. As an unknown act, they became the first street performers ever to achieve a chart position, selling more records that week than some internationally well-known artists. With no backing or publicity, the key to this success was The Dualers’ ever-growing, increasingly dedicated fan-base.



Growing up in South London with parents Bill and Jackie Cranstoun, Tyber’s musical taste was heavily influenced by the music played at home. Playing at several locations in and around London in the sixties with his Savoy Sound System, Bill helped to introduce ska music to the capital.

After attending the elite Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Tyber joined his brother singing on the street in the late 1990s. Together, he and Simon built a repertoire of classic ska, reggae and soul songs, receiving a phenomenal response wherever they performed.

Starting with various club performances in Central London, The Dualers branched out and began selling out theatre venues such as Fairfield Halls in Croydon, The Churchill Theatre in Bromley, and The Brentwood Centre in Essex, on numerous occasions.



Their second single, Truly Madly Deeply, was released in November 2005, reaching number 23 in the UK Singles Chart. This track was recently chosen by Warner Brothers to be used as a featured song in the 2008 movie Fool’s Gold starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson.

In March 2006 Skavoovie was launched: a ska club night in London’s West End, hosted by The Dualers. These monthly sessions quickly gained a regular following and became very popular with fans, old and new, until it successfully completed its run in November 2007.



A third single, Don’t Go, was released in June 2006, followed a month later by the long-awaited debut album, The Melting Pot. A summer promotional tour followed, playing at festivals in London, Oxfordshire, Canterbury, Wiltshire and Wales, culminating with a live interview and performance of several Melting Pot tracks on Mark Lamarr’s BBC Radio 2 show.



As The Dualers became increasingly popular with fans, they also caught the attention of established acts such as Toots and the Maytals, Ziggy Marley, The Beat, and The Blockheads, who all invited Tyber and Simon to support them at their shows. Word began to spread further afield with a number of appearances in Europe in 2007.



In December 2007 Kiss on the Lips gained national TV airplay when it was used in a number of scenes on hit BBC soap Eastenders. Later that month Tyber and his parents, Bill and Jackie, were seen, again on the BBC, featured as part of the documentary series Dance Britannia.

The Dualers continue to sell out their own venues, such as indigO2 (3 times in 2 years) and released their second album in 2009.



Simon has since left the band to persue a solo career, with Tyber continuing to front The Dualers.
