ABOUT THE PERFORMERS :

SMITH & MIGHTY :

In 1988 clubs, cafes and bars across the nation began tuning into a track that would help define the next 16 years of British dance music, SMITH & MiGHTY's first 12" release, 'Anyone'.

Long before Bristol had become a recognized stronghold for downtempo trip-hop and spy-soundtrack dubs, the duo of Rob Smith and Ray Mighty teamed in the late ’80s for two early dub/breakbeat tracks, “Walk on By” and “Anyone Who Had a Heart.” The anachronistic fusion of sophisticated Burt Bacharach

productions with laidback dub and hip-hop treatments prefigured trip-hop’s later fascination with the more polished end of ’60s adult-pop. The pair also produced a top ten single for Fresh Four (Wishing on a Star), produced Massive Attacks first single (Any Love) and a sublime album for Carlton (The Call is Strong) on London records.

During the end of the 80's and early 90's Smith and Mighty continued to produce, remix and DJ across the world and worked with Neneh Cherry, Norman Cook and Fine Young Cannibals amongst others.

Tracks from their 'Steppers Delight EP', anticipated the Jungle/Drum and Bass' scene and in '94 the release of the critically acclaimed 'Bass Is Maternal' LP kept S&M's reputation riding high.

Still touring and playing bass heavy mashups, dub, breakbeat and jungle riddims, Smith & Mighty prepare for 2018 when they will celebrate a 30 year anniversary of their first release, 'Anyone'.

THE CHICKEN BROTHERS :

More than your average musical experience—these two DJ/Producers are more animated than the entire Disney Pixar back catalogue! Serving up the best mechanically recovered beats in a free range-remix sauce, with a healthy dollop of turntable trickery and organic interactions, the feathered brethren have developed a gastronomic following with an all-you-can-eat offer on food related puns.

MAD APPLE CIRCUS :

Original blend of horn-fuelled styles, built on Ska/Hip-Hop/Jazz and Latin grooves – nothing but the good stuff. Owing to their unique sound and energetic performances, this hard-hitting, humble Bristolian nine-piece have fast become festival favourites and a popular choice among promoters in the UK and Europe.

Dj LEO :

His confident appearance is matched by his skilfully control

of a good mixing desk. To watch Leo DJ is part of the experience. Cocky? Perhaps, but certainly not arrogant, DJ LEO says he likes to be in control of the minds and bodies of his audience, something far more emotional, Forceful, dominant, aggressive yet somehow tender and caring. The visual impact allows your body to further immerse itself in the ecstasy he is submitting you to. your ears alone cannot possibly absorb everything that he is throwing at you.

THE RIN TINS :

"Keep them dancing!"

That’s the ethos that The Rin Tins have kept since their inception in early 2011 and since then the sextet have dedicated themselves to bringing folk fuelled jazz jive boogie to the Bristol scene.

They’ve been called the ‘definitive Bristolian party band’ by South West music legend Cozzie O’Cozfunkel, were 'the people's choice' at Shambala 2014 and described as ‘splendid gypsy rockabilly’ by The Zen Hussies own Jules Landau.

With music that combines dark folk tales with swing jazz rhythms and pounding oompa beats, for the past 6 years The Rin Tins have been filling dance floors and festival tents across the UK.

Dj DAD :

Dad mostly mixes hip hop, roots reggae, dub, dancehall, jazz and drum & bass, jungle & garage. Voice samples and a capellas cross temporal and geographic borders with bass-heavy beats in an attempt to produce new narratives and encourage profane movements from different generations occupying the same spaces.

Dj PAPA MOOMIN :

one of Bristol's premier DJs who spins a rich mix of disco, reggae, soul, funk, house, garage, techno, bass - anything goes. Papa Moomin moonlights as Chrissy Hotpants, a DJ/Producer for BIG IN LIGHTS who are a band described as the musical love child of Quincy Jones and Prince. Papa Moomin also teams up with Mister Long to present ASSETS, their monthly radio show on MusicBoxRadio.co.uk. To top all that off, he is a founding member of The Dutty Dozen Soundclash collective.
