Josh Record
25-year-old Brixton based singer-songwriter Josh Record releases the follow up to his stunning debut EP ‘Bones’, with ‘The War’ EP August 5th on National Anthem (Chvrches, Haim).
Steering towards universal touchstones of love, loyalty, mortality, solitude and community, Josh Record’s music comes from a very honest place.
The result is a record of extraordinary beauty, power and depth, its melodies, vocal harmonies, chord progressions and soundscapes somehow both ancient and modern, its preoccupations, perennial.
From the ghostly fade-out of lead track ‘The War’ – with its staggering sense of space and depth – through the gospel flourishes peppering ‘House’ and the shiver-inducing ‘Skin’, ‘The War’ is an EP strapped with a resounding emotional heft but one also with its feet fixed firmly on the ground.
‘The War’ has also been remixed by Indie luminary Tom Vek. Ellis Bahl (who directed the video for Alt-J’s single Breezeblocks) shot the video.
Josh’s heart-swelling radio favourite ‘For Your Love’ from the aforementioned ‘Bones’ EP, was heralded by everyone from Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe to The Sunday Times who said “His keening falsetto invites comparisons to Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon…Record has a sensational debut album in him.”
Josh is just about to embark on a series of dates taking in the length and breadth of the UK including appearances at Glastonbury, as special guest support to Rodriguez in Amsterdam, Latitude, and a London show at Water Rats July 3rd.
