Tall Ships, originally from Falmouth but now living in Brighton, have been attracting attention with their complex, layered and beautiful soundscapes and intelligent songwriting to create music that still manages to have the potential for mass appeal, citing the likes of Battles, Sigur Rós and Biffy Clyro as musical influences.
Live Tall Ships are a must see band, mesmerising to watch, with such energy and deftness you can’t help but be amazed by them. They are fast gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting live bands in the UK right now. They tour relentlessly and have honed the show into a thrilling experience, both aurally and visually as!layers of sound and vocals are!cleverly and deftly assembled to startling effect.
They have already supported the likes of We Are Scientists, Metronomy (in Brazil), 65daysofstatic (throughout Europe), Dry The River, Los Campesinos!, Nada Surf, Maps & Atlases, The Futureheads, Minus The Bear, Three Trapped Tigers & Tubelord.
Tall Ships released their debut album ‘Everything Touching’, through Big Scary Monsters/Blood and Biscuits, receiving rave reviews from all corners of the press. The album was recorded with producer Jamie Field (Tubelord, Tangled Hair) in Bovey Tracey, Devon and mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless (Battles, LCD Soundsystem, Bon Iver).
Latest single ‘Gallop’ marks a progression for the band’s sound, adding almost Morrisey-esque vocals to a typically catchy, building soundtrack forged together by loop pedals and a pounding drum beat.!The track was recently playlisted by BBC Radio1 as part of BBC Introducing and has received plays from Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Annie Mac (Radio 1), Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne (6music) and John Kennedy (XFM).
They performed to sold out venues across the UK before completing the UK album tour by performing to a capacity crowd at XOYO, London.
Earlier in the year, the band released ‘T=0’, on 7” complete with beautiful handcrafted marbled ink sleeves designed by the band’s visual artist Harriet Bridgewater and was backed up by b-sides which include a 65daysofstatic remix of the track and tracks from live sessions in New York. To support the release, Tall Ships toured the UK and Europe with Los Campesinos!, Dry the River and Maps&Atlases.
