Venue spotlight: Sugar Cane
If you’re looking for a bar that will make you remember everything you loved about your ten-day all-inclusive holiday to Cancun in 2019, then you’ve hit the jackpot with the Sugar Cane tiki bar. Sugar Cane is a tiki bar in south-west London - just off Lavender Hill for all those Battersea/Clapham locals – that opened its doors in 2019, and it’s been doing a roaring trade in rum punch and banana leaf mai tai’s ever since.

One of the most lavish and innovative bars south of the Thames, Sugar Cane is a tiki bar with all the trimmings: huts as booths, straw chief chairs, tiki statues, exotic flowers, palms, lots of bamboo and woven banana leaves covering the walls, and even tiki face cocktail glasses. Inside, the bar is teeming with bamboo-based memorabilia that will make you really feel as though you’re at a beach-side bar somewhere on the isle of Aruba. Outside is a large and pleasant terrace, so that your party can head outside when the sun decides to make an appearance.
There’s so much on at Sugar Cane, I doubt you could ever get bored! From cocktail masterclasses to private events, to Friday and Saturday night DJ residences, you can party the night away any day of the week. They even occasionally throw a speed dating party here – so if you’re bored of Bumble, this might be for you. There happy hour is also pretty amazing – from Sunday to Thursdays, cocktails are £6.50. Any Clapham local will know how great that deal is!
